One Word Film Project

 Directions

In this project we were given a random word and were told to create a short film that clearly illustrates the word. The film had to be 60-90 seconds long and sound was not allowed.

Approach

We used a brainstorming sheet and a storyboard sheet to help prepare and pre-visualize our film. The storyboard helped a lot as it allowed us to see our film in sequential order and allowed me and my partner to stay organized. The pictures of my storyboard are below. We also had to use editing software's to help edit our film to utilize the new editing techniques that we learned in class. The software that I used is adobe express. This software is the beginner software and it made it very easy to control and manipulate all my clips.

Analysis

The word for my film was "curious". So in my film we created a story about a boy in school who sees a door that reads "do not enter". In the film, we utilized a variety of  angles and composition such as long shots, medium shots, close ups, over the shoulder, tracking shots, etc. We also used some of the editing techniques that we learned in class such as and eyeline match, action match and cross cutting. However, Some cuts were unnatural making the film look sloppy.

Overall, for my first time editing, I would say I did a decent job and I will definitely see improvement in the future as I continue to learn more in class and do more projects like these. To watch my video, click on the link below.

Camera Shots Quiz

 Camera Shots Quiz

For my very first filming assignment, me and my partner had to create a story with only 15 shots with a few belongings inside out backpacks. We decided to create a story about a pair of glasses who tries to eat a box of muffins, but the muffins are being gaurded by a pencil.

Behind the Scenes

When me and my partner were planning my 15 shot movie, I wanted to make sure each shot told part of the story, and we tried to make sure to do so through the different camera angles and shots. I started with an establishing extreme long shot to set the scene of the movie and began to slowly move closer to characters by using long and medium shots. As conflict between the characters started, I used a dutch angle to show and build tension between the glasses and the donuts. I also used close-ups, high angles, and over-the-shoulder shots to create rivalry between the pencil and the glasses. The final shots showed the drama and the sad ending in which the glasses ended up defeating the pencil for sweet treat.

Reflection

One thing me and my partner did good was making sure each shot had a purpose to the plot of the story. For example, the dutch angle and high angles emphasized the tensions between the characters and allows the audience to see which character has control. The POV shots also helped the movie be more inclusive for the audience making it feel like the viewer is apart of the movie.

However, I had to improve some parts of my project. Some of the shots would have to be smoother cut so that the narrative would be more unified. I should also spend longer using different lighting and framing to create a more exceptional visual. using differing emotions would also solve the problem by changing up the mood.
